Producing for Snoh Aalegra
Snoh Aalegra just dropped her new album, “Temporary Highs, In The Violet Skies”. It’s her 4th album, and once again, another classic.
This new album is reminiscent of her old with slight departures in a few trap-influenced tracks. However, I also picked up on influences from legendary production duo, The Neptunes.
So, with all that in mind, in this tutorial, I produce for an R&B artist like Snoh Aalegra.
Rhythm & Bass
I started this beat with a drum sound palette as if selected by Chad Hugo of the Neptunes. And the pattern says Neptunes too. The conga is quintessential Neptunes. But the sounds were made by Decap.
I chose to use an 808 bass on this track to keep it percussive and bouncy.
“Snoh Aalegra has that type of voice you just want to sample. In fact, Drake already did on Do Not Disturb”. It would seem that Snoh even samples her own vocals they’re so good. So I made it my mission to find a vocal sample that sounded like her. It was actually pretty quick and simple with Glaze.
